Product Info FAQ
What's the work area of the Snapmaker Ray?
The Snapmaker Ray offers a spacious work area of 400mm × 600mm.
What are the differences between the 20W & 40W Laser Module and the laser module included in the Snapmaker Ray?
In terms of functionality, there are no differences between them. They both offer the same capabilities.
What is the difference between the linear modules in the Snapmaker Ray and Snapmaker Artisan?
The 400mm linear module in the Snapmaker Ray is identical to the linear module in the Artisan, except for the screw hole positions. However, the 600mm linear module in the Snapmaker Ray has a different length and hole position compared to the linear module in the Artisan.
Can the Snapmaker Ray be upgraded to a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 machine? / Can I upgrade the Snapmaker Ray with 3D printing and CNC features in the future?
At the moment, the Snapmaker Ray does not support upgrades to a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 machine. Upgrading would require significant changes, such as replacing the controller. However, we are continuously expanding the laser functionality to offer more options in that area.
What are the specs of the Snapmaker Ray 20W & 40W Laser Engraver and Cutter?
Will Snapmaker Ray be compatible with the current Rotary Module and the Air Purifier Module?
Ray will be compatible with the Rotary Module and Air Purifier Module. The add-on port is for the Air Purifier Module, and the Motion port is for the Rotary Module. Additionally, please refer to the attached image of the Power Module.
Will Snapmaker Ray be compatible with the Snapmaker 10W and 1.6W laser modules?
Partial compatibility. Snapmaker Ray is partially compatible with both the 10W and 1.6W laser modules.
Reasons for the speed limitation when using 1.6W/10W laser modules on Snapmaker Ray (not reaching the speed of using the 20W/40W laser modules on Snapmaker Ray) - The internal driver boards of the 1.6W and 10W laser modules have a longer light emission delay, which limits the maximum acceptable pulse frequency (PWM) of instructions. Additionally, the power limitation of the 1.6W and 10W laser modules prevents achieving good processing results at high speeds.
The Snapmaker Ray Machine Body item option is for 20W/40W Laser Module owners who are interested in purchasing the Ray without Laser Modules. We do not recommend you purchase the Snapmaker Ray Machine Body for using the 1.6W/10W laser module only. Please note the following details:
-
While it is possible to use the 10W and 1.6W laser modules on Ray, their hardware limitations result in similar engraving/cutting capabilities to Snapmaker 2.0-10W/1.6W and Artisan-10W/1.6W, which do not reach the maximum performance of Ray's motion system and its firmware.
-
The usage is complicated, with manual focusing being the only option.
-
Camera-related features (Camera Capture, Automatic Thickness Measurement, Auto Focus) cannot be used.
-
It requires a specific toolhead Quick-Swap plate (not included in the Ray/Ray Machine Body) for attachment.
Can I use Lightburn for Snapmaker Ray?
How to adjust the Z height in Snapmaker Ray?
The laser head has a built-in quick swap mechanism. When the laser and the bed is raised to the same height, you can easily move the head up and down to adjust the height for objects between 0-60mm.
As we can understand users shouldn’t always have to raise the whole machine to adjust the Z height. So depending on the height of the workpiece, the use of a cylindrical foot is as follows: 0-60mm with zero cylindrical foot, 60mm-110mm with 1 set of cylindrical feet, 110-160mm with 2 sets of cylindrical feet.
Only when the thickness goes up to 110mm will you have to attach an extra set of cylindrical feet to the machine.
Is there any information available regarding the upcoming 2W Laser Module?
We anticipate the release of the 2W Laser Module in 2024. Please note that the actual release date may vary slightly.
The 2W Laser Module will be a new addition to Snapmaker's laser module lineup. Unlike the current laser modules (40W/20W/10W/1.6W) which emit blue light, the upcoming 2W Laser Module emits infrared light with a wavelength of 1064nm. This module is specifically designed for engraving plastic materials and various types of metals.
